Contact Information

Providing Assistance to Canadians Abroad

Make sure your clients are aware of such issues as departure fees, customs and import controls and illegal souvenirs.
The wallet-sized Emergency Contact Card is aimed at
Canadian travellers. It provides the necessary information
to help them access emergency consular assistance.

As a precaution, your clients would be well advised to carry contact information for the Canadian government office or offices in their destination country. Refer to the booklet Bon Voyage, But… for a list of Canadian government offices abroad. Since contact information is subject to change, it is always a good idea to check the travel.gc.ca website for the most up-to-date information.

While most problems experienced by travellers are minor, a client will sometimes run into serious difficulties. Canadian government offices abroad are there to help.

Consular officials are also available in Ottawa to assist your clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If your clients require urgent assistance while abroad, during business hours, they should call the nearest Canadian embassy or consulate.

They can also contact our Emergency Operations Centre of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada in Ottawa anytime at 613-996-8885.

Consult the relevant Travel Report to find out if there is a toll-free number to reach the Emergency Operations Centre from a foreign country.

Travellers can also reach the Emergency Operations Centre by e-mail at sos@international.gc.ca.
