The dream of living their retirement years in another country, perhaps with a more moderate climate, proximity to family and friends and lower cost of living, has come true for thousands of Canadians. Many do so year-round, while others balance their time out of Canada with the reality of tax laws.
Whatever your reason for wanting to retire outside Canada, the basic rule, once again, is to make careful preparations. Tax laws, medical care and security may not seem important when you're dreaming of swaying palms and gentle tropical breezes. But they quickly become a preoccupation once you move to another country.
